Efficient heatsink solutions in solid aluminium
Apart from the tried-and-tested compression/bonding for manufacturing heatsinks with a very narrow fin ratio, the so-called bonded fin heatsinks, Fischer Elektronik GmbH & Co. KG has also developed an innovative manufacturing process providing further efficient heatsink design options. The novel heatsinks in the KGR series are made from solid aluminium and can be produced in any geometry, also to customer-specific requirements. These heatsink solutions are made of one piece, meaning that the heat transfer from the heatsink’s base plate to the individual fins takes place in the same basic material, markedly improving it even further from a heat perspective. In addition, the fin coolers can also be provided with a better surface coating in a further process as no thermal adhesive will act as a barrier, particularly where critical applications such as medical devices are concerned, for example, or installation locations with a high humidity. At the current state of the art, these heatsinks can be manufactured up to a maximum width of 250 mm with base thicknesses from 4 to 20 mm and a minimum fin thickness of 0.8 mm for 2/2,5/3/4/5 mm fin spacings. The greatest fin height at this moment in time (without the thickness of the base plate) amounts to 38 mm with a maximum heatsink length of 1,500 mm.
